Your 30-Minute Pachinko “Gameplay” Clip of the Day

People that know me, know that I love slot-machines, not because there’s potential, albeit small potential, to win a ton of money, but because they’ve practically evolved into full-fledged video games, featuring touch-screen action phases and even chairs with embedded Bose speakers. This same evolution has apparently happened in Japan, with Pachinko standing in for America’s dirty slots.

The video above is amazing. I have no idea what’s going on… but a little research reveals that the theme of the game is an anime series from the 70s called Combattler VThe game is so chaotic that I think I died  six times within the first ten minutes of the video.

This may just be news to me, but as I was scrolling down the MASSIVE list of songs released on the Rock Band Network I came across the above. That’s right, apparently a few classic orchestral pieces have been reinterpreted by Paul Henry Smith & the Fauxharmonic Orchestra for play in the game. How much fun this is, I don’t know. But I DO know that I’ve hosted several Rock Band parties and… there’s absolutely no way you’d be able to get anyone else to play these with you. “Do you have anymore Weezer?” they’ll say as the scroll away from your unique suggestion. Oh, bravo! All of a sudden you’re the master of navigating my list of songs when it wasn’t 30 seconds ago that you didn’t even know how to hold that damn Xbox controller. I hate you! No one plays Dream Theater with me except Stephen!

Whoa… what happened? Anyway, it’s pretty cool that they did this, even though I doubt many people were clamoring for it. Besides reliving the second scariest part of Fantasia with “A Night On Bald Mountain” (I have a phobia of mops), “Flight of the Bumblebee” and “Hungarian Dance No. 5” (videos below) are also available for only $1 a piece. Hopefully, Bassoon Hero won’t be far behind.

Immediate Reactions: Kinect for 360

By RiggzMonday - June 14th, 2010Categories: Rant, Video Games

Oh really? Women love your moves, huh? Envy of your friends?! I believe it!

Ugh… motion controls. I’d say that motion controls are to video games what the 3D fad is to movies, but I’d be ignoring the fact that games are going 3D as well. I don’t hate them, but that Microsoft and Sony think that they can steal away some of the Wii’s casual audience with motion controls of their own is retarded. And if they think that any serious gamers are clamoring for these types of control methods then they may have full on fetal alcohol syndrome. The Wii is super cheap and was first. Boom. I just figured out the mysteries behind Nintendo’s success.

Regardless… this fad is happening and with E3 in full swing I had to sit through Microsoft’s Kinect-centric press conference… here are a few immediate reactions.
